Abstract |
"Justice Seekers: Pursuing Equity in the Details of Teaching and Learning is a book for educators and aspiring educators. Told in a style that blends storytelling with the research that informs practice, this book began with a discouraging discovery about the author's own limitations as an educator and the questions it prompted about the systems in which she worked. In this book, a reader will: Learn how justice itself is something that is either happening--or not happening--inside the classroom, in the very details of teaching and learning. Identify and eradicate shame-inducing pedagogies from children's classrooms and world. Challenge educators to see the many ways that justice for our children is in the details of race, pedagogy, and educational standards. Honestly and strategically confront the issue of low cognitive demand that is disproportionately present in work given to Black and brown children in schools."-- Provided by publisher. |
