Abstract |
This collection of lessons uses picture books and primary sources, such as digitized sheet music and recordings, contemporary accounts, and photographs, to make the history of American music more immediate to students. Perfect as a tie-in to a United States history unit, this book is chronologically arranged and can be used for studying music history or studying a period in American history through its musicians and music. Each chapter is divided into two parts: a teacher section that provides background information and resources to use in introducoing the musicians to the students; and a student section that provides questions to research, possible products that demonstrate learning, and an extensive list of resources. |
