Summary |
The purpose of this study was to identify the reasons parents decide to home school their children, how they decide what curriculum to use and how they implement it, and what regulations and policies they believe are required to ensure all children receive a quality education. Data were collected through questionnaires sent to home schooling families in North Carolina. Findings include information available for home school parents who are just starting out, information to educators about the increasing popularity of home schooling, and insights into the methods used by parents that may (when carried into classrooms), yield some improvements. Insights to the increasing number of children leaving public schools for home schooling and the consequent increase of home schoolers are also provided. Conclusions made from this study are consistent with other studies on Home Schooling. These consist of the ideologies, morals and values of parents, including the control they have over their child's academic and social interactions and the parents' views on state laws regarding testing, minimum educational qualifications, and integration of home schools and public schools. |
