| Summary | Collection contains correspondence, land records, maps, diary fragments, financial papers, account books, and miscellaneous items. Correspondence contains information about Brunswick County and Fayetteville, N.C.; farming in Blum, Tex.; and life in Blanton, Fla. Ledgers and diary fragments include general store accounts, tavern records, records of slaves, birth and death records, and comments on agriculture, logging, and turpentine production. Brunswick County land records are confined mainly to the Hood's Creek section and include deeds and a map relating to the sale of lands of Benjamin Smith. Maps show property boundaries in upper Hood's Creek area (ca. 1800) and Roan (Rowan) Plantation on the Cape Fear River. Miscellaneous items include a lumber and log book, a remedy for hog cholera, obituaries, poems, certificates, commission for the Grand Lodge of N.C. Knights of Pythias, insurance policies, a copy of the play "The Pull Back" by T. S. Denison, a certificate of appointment of Samuel J. Rowell as a postmaster, and copies of a pencil sketch of Mrs. Sarah Rowell. |
