General noteThe eastern boundary of Rhode Island was settled in 1746. Tiverton, Little Compton, Bristol, Warren, Barrington and Cumberland became part of Rhode Island, and the county seat of Bristol County, Massachsuetts moved from Bristol to Taunton. The courts were first held in Taunton on Dec. 9, 1746.
