| Abstract | Although many books have been written about Charlie Chaplin, most are the products of research gathered from secondhand sources and various archives. Erik James had the privilege of knowing and working with Chaplin in the capacity of Music Associate for more than twenty years, during which time he helped Charlie compose and arrange the music for a large number of his films. He draws upon this relationship and offers a delightful account of both his professionalism and personal experiences in his detailed autobiography. Providing more than just another musical profile, the author relates everything from his first encounter with Chaplin to his frequent visits to Switzerland, where he spend his days, from early morning until late at night, at the Manoir de Ban with Chaplin and his family. Previously unrevealed details about Chaplin's temperament and the creation of the music for his films give insight into the legend.
