| Abstract | "Open Architecture curricular design (OCAD) is a textbook-free curricular design framework for teaching and learning world languages that integrates all of the best practices in world language education to enhance learning efficiency and effectiveness. This burgeoning approach, pioneered by the editors, builds on task-based language teaching and incorporates learner-centered learning, the development of multicultural competencies, and more efficient learning strategies. Open Architecture Curricular Design in World Language Education defines and demonstrates how using OCAD to develop curricula and teaching methods can improve teaching and learning world languages, while engaging students more deeply. Contributors show different ways to use OCAD for a wide variety of languages and proficiency levels in government, service academy, and university programs, providing a window into the flexibility of the approach. Topics covered include the use of authentic texts at all levels, learner involvement in the selection of content and activities, and methods of assessment and program evaluation. A must-have for world language instructors and SLA researchers from middle school through higher education and beyond"-- Provided by publisher. |
