| Abstract | "To achieve high reliability and desirable fault tolerance, many novel machine topologies, such as multiphase machines and multiple 3-phase machines with innovative stator and rotor configurations and power electronic control, have been developed to cope with various electric faults, such as open-circuit faults, short-circuit faults, and winding interturn short-circuit faults as a result of insulation breakdown. Comprehensive and computationally efficient fault modeling techniques have also evolved to gain an in-depth understanding of various fault behaviors and to facilitate the development of fault detection and post-fault control strategies. In this regard, effective fault detection is essential to identify the fault type, isolate it, and enable an appropriate mitigation action for continued post-fault operations."-- Provided by publisher. |
