Abstract "Queer theology is a growing discipline that applies queer theory within the field of theology, with roots in liberation theology, feminist theologies, and theologies of race. For the last thirty years, queer theologians and communities have been developing ways to challenge the heteronormativity in theological thought, spiritual practices, and institutional governance of classical Christian theology. This resulted in several publications that deal with issues in queer theology, but that are not intended as an introduction to the discipline for a truly academic audience, nor are meant to investigate beliefs and spiritualities beyond Christianity. The proposed title aims to offer a valuable resource to teach queer theology globally, spanning different contexts in which spirituality, sacred texts, and beliefs have been deconstructed from a queer perspective in Christianity as well as Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, and pagan spiritualities. Drawing from a variety of sources, experience and realities, Global Queer Theologies: Intercontextual and Interreligious Perspectives brings together studies on the Global North and the Global South to present how queer believers theologise and counter the principles that seek to ostracize them from faith communities"-- Provided by publisher.
