| Abstract | "Malka Owsiany was just 20 years old, recently liberated from the Ravensbrück concentration camp only seven months earlier, and had been living in Buenos Aires for mere weeks when she began sharing her story with Mark Turkow. A Polish-born Jewish journalist, writer, and cultural activist, Turkow was a prominent figure in Argentina's Jewish cultural scene. Malke Ovshyani dertseylt . . . Khronik fun undzer tsayt (Malka Owsiany Recounts . . . Chronicle of Our Time) was published in 1946, in Yiddish, in Buenos Aires Argentina. It was translated to Spanish: Malka Owsiany relata. Crónicas de nuestro tiempo. Memorias recopiladas por Mark Turkow (2001) Malka's testimony was among the first to be published in Buenos Aires, making it a significant contribution to early Holocaust literature. The book recounts what Malka went though during WWII, and contains memoirs of Polish Jewish life, giving a full picture of the khurbn: the destruction of millions of human lives and their strong and vibrant communities"-- Provided by publisher. |
