Biographical noteByan Geoffrey Bowes is a retired Senior Lecturer in the Botany Department at Glasgow University and a Research Fellow in ETH Zurich, Harvard University, and Armidale University. His research interests encompass plant anatomy and ultrastructure, plant regeneration, and morphogenesis in vitro. His is the author of several botanical texts published by Manson Publishing including a Colour Atlas of Trees (2008). In retirement, he has become particularly interested in the numerous veteran and ancient trees in the field, both in the United kingdom and elsewhere, while also recording detailed digital images of tree micro-morphology.
