Abstract "The accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, particularly carbon dioxide, has increased substantially in the past 50 years which has led to changes in climatic conditions. This, in turn, has led to a chain of actions starting from the melting of polar ice, rising sea level, adverse effects on low lying coastal areas, existence of various plant and animals, agriculture industry and livelihood patterns. Following this, the outbreak of diseases like dengue, malaria, etc. Therefore, the mitigation measures to stabilize or reduce its concentration of carbon dioxide is imperative for the survival of life on earth. One of the most important action we can take is bio-fixation of carbon from the atmosphere. This book attempts to bring forth the role of vegetation in carbon sequestration. The introductory chapters of the book deal with the understanding of the physical attributes governing climate on earth, historical account of climate change, impacts of climate change on different environs, eco-strategies to combat climate change. Detailed account of mechanism of carbon sources and sinks, carbon credits and REDD+ are also discussed.
