Abstract This method, used as the basic text for the Berklee College of Music guitar program, has stood the test of time and earned a loyal following of dedicated guitar students. Comprised of three volumes, this method is a practical and comprehensive guitar instruction program designed for beginning through advanced levels of playing. Volume 1 teaches scales, melodic studies, chord and arpeggio studies, how to read music, accompaniment techniques, special exercises for developing technique in both hands, and a unique approach to voice leading using moveable chord forms. Volume 2 continues and builds upon the study of melody, scales, arpeggios, and chords, covering the entire fingerboard, while addressing: intervals, chord voicings, improvisation, rhythm-guitar techniques, and play-along duets. Volume 3 is a continuation and expansion of topics presented in the previous volumes, including advanced techniques relating to scales, arpeggios, rhythm guitar, chord/scale relationships, chord construction, chord voicings, and tips for advanced playing.
