| Abstract | "In the Anthropocene, global warming, species extinction, and environmental disasters represent the dark side of human's mastery of nature. In Acting with the World, science studies theorist Andrew Pickering examines how humans relate to nature and their environment, advocating for a pattern of action that Pickering calls "acting-with." Pickering challenges more dominant practices of capitalist and scientific intervention that prioritize a way of "acting on"-or enframing-nature, and he calls for a shift to more poetic practices of acting-with the world. Throughout this book, Pickering prioritizes example over argument, taking a close look at a variety of environmental cases and practices, such as natural farming, the constructions of dams, and more"-- Provided by publisher. |
