Scope and content This collection contains the congressional files for U.S. House of Representatives member Walter B. Jones, Jr., who represented the 3rd Congressional District of North Carolina from 1995 until his death in 2019. Included are files, scrapbooks, media, and electronic files. The electronic files were created by his staff and included speeches, correspondence, articles, promotional material, notes and videos for the years 2005-2018.

Biographical noteWalter Beamon Jones, Jr., was born in Farmville, North Carolina, on February 10, 1943, to Walter B. Jones, Sr., and his wife Doris (Dot) Long. He attended Hargrave Military Academy, graduated from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in 1966, and served four years in the N.C. National Guard. Jones served five terms in the N.C. House of Representatives as a Democrat starting in 1982. In 1994 he ran as a Republican and won to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives representing the 3rd District, a position he held until his death on February 10, 2019.
