Abstract | Collection consists of a letter sent to Enos Harrell from the Headquarters of the Freedmen's Bureau, Subdivision of Tarboro, Rocky Mount, N.C. The letter, dated Jan. 14, 1866, charges that Harrell failed to pay proper wages to an African-American servant, Sophie Dunford. Also included are receipts (1815-1847) and a promissory note, dated 1855, which reflects the hiring of an African-American woman named Sophie. The note was payable to Luinda Dunfred. |
