Summary Great Lake is nutrient poor with its water source limited to precipitation and surface or subsurface seepage from the adjacent land surface. A maximum of 13 (conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll a, calcium, sodium, chloride, ammonia, nitrate-nitrite, orthophosphate, zinc, iron, copper) and a minimum of nine chemical parameters were measured during a three year period to determine seasonal trends and to evaluate the effects of a wildfire on the lake. Pre-fire variables showed general stability across seasons while all post-fire variables were significantly different from season to season. The fire significantly affected seven (conductivity, dissolved oxygen, calcium, chloride, ammonia, nitrate-nitrite, orthophosphate) of the nine parameters tested, including five (conductivity, calcium, chloride, ammonia, nitrate nitrite) which did not recover to pre-fire concentrations one year after the fire.
