Abstract Numerous publications have been dedicated to extended techniques on woodwind instruments in recent years, not least for the flute. While each of these has had its particular utility and where other studies primarily take the form of catalogs of advanced sonic means, Volume 1 enters in depth into the actual techniques flutist will need to master in order to faithfully realize the intention of the composer. Each aspect of dealing with extended techniques is considered, including the myriad of fingerings necessary to deal with certain problems. Volume 2 is an equally comprehensive work for piccolo, alto and bass flutes.
