| Abstract | "The Oxford Handbook of Tourism History provides an essential reference resource that consolidates innovative research into the history of tourism while mapping new trajectories that embrace scholars working in a variety of national contexts. The collection's 33 original essays give advanced students, instructors, and researchers an overview of the field as it exists today and chart a course forward, particularly as regards the nascent histories of various "niche" tourism practices, which have yet to receive adequate historical analysis. The handbook showcases what we now know and highlights what we do not, serving as a necessary starting point for those anxious to craft the future history of tourism.
