| Abstract | The purpose of this book is to provide information on some current uses of vibroacoustic therapy. Research and clinical information from around the world is included to give the reader an idea of the potential applications of music vibration in the facilitation of health. Generically, vibroacoustic therapy can be defined as the use of music and sounds (as auditory and vibratory stimuli) transmitted to the body to achieve physical and psychological therapeutic goals. The stimulus may also include pulsed, low-frequency pure tones either singly or in a sequence. The stimuli are often delivered to the body through loud speakers built into a chair bed unit. This is an emerging and developing field, and there are indeed many uses and applications of music vibration currently in practice, with a variety of products available to achieve similar therapeutic goals, but with some differences in the nature and delivery of the treatment stimulus. The intention of this book is to focus on clinical, ethical and research aspects of vibroacoustic therapy rather than to provide a wide-ranging overview of the field. |
