| Abstract | "We believe this book represents a resource unlike other existing books on the topic of healthcare management or health systems science. We sought to bring together cutting-edge ideas in health system science and to place them in the context of real-world challenges with practical solutions. This book uses a case-based approach to make the material easy to engage with. Each case covers a common challenge in improving the delivery of surgical care. Each of the editors has deep experience in health services research combined with practical experience, working as leaders in different areas of healthcare delivery, including roles such as department chair, division chief, president of a medical group, and chief medical officer for an architecture firm. We have used our networks to select authors with other areas of leadership experience in healthcare systems. We wrote this book for surgical leaders and health system administrators at all levels who seek to understand how to improve the delivery of surgical care. We believe this unique book will help leaders understand the strategy and operations of delivering surgical care with the goal of building clinical programs, improving access for patients, optimizing the use of resource-intensive facilities, and ensuring the highest quality of care"-- Provided by publisher. |
