General note"The volume ... contains the first edition of Scaliger's commentary on De re rustica, which is notorious for containing the result of the hoax perpetrated on the editor by Marc Antoine Muret: for this edition Muret sent to Scaliger some Latin verses of his own composition which he claimed to be by the old Roman comic poet Trabea. Scaliger was taken in, for not only did he print the verses, but even accompanied them with his learned commentary (pp. 211-12)."--see Schreiber, F.
