| Abstract | Elevating the study of aural skills to levels previously found only in harmony textbooks, this book lucidly explains how to hear and understand the essential elements of tonal music. Informed by the author's groundbreaking research on music perception and cognition and his twenty-five years of practical teaching experience, the book systematically develops ear-training skills based on how students actually learn. This book is organized according to how students best acquire skills--by scale degree, chord function, metric level, and rhythmic proportion.
