| Abstract | "The purpose of this book is to provide readers with an introduction to genetics and genomics, and how this knowledge is applied in the clinical setting. Each chapter addresses how healthcare has been impacted by genomics and its implications in practice. Rapid advances in genomics have changed clinical expectations and the utilization of genomics in the care of the patient and the family. It is imperative that nurses have genomic knowledge that can be implemented into clinical practice. Nurse educators must be adept to teaching genomic content throughout a nursing curriculum, and at every degree level. Nurses will be held accountable to the application of genomics in the assessment and treatment of the patient. Considerations of how genetics impacts the family and subsequent care will be an added expectation. Nurses must have genomic knowledge so they can advocate for patient and family care as part of the delivery of personalized healthcare, and in the utilization of genomic advances to improve patient outcomes.
