| Abstract |
This collection brings together classic pieces from the Romantic repertoire for flute and piano that are well within the capabilities of advanced amateurs, suitable for school concerts, youth music competitions and indeed for the repertoire of professional flautists. Technical challenges are at an intermediate level, roughly corresponding to levels 3-4 in German national music competitions or Grade 5-8 in international music examinations. While pieces by Friedrich Kuhlau and Gaetano Donizetti are still deeply rooted in the Classical tradition, Variations by Friedrich Silcher represent bravura showpieces by celebrated virtuoso performers. The Romantic counterpart to these is found in dance-like or lyrical short pieces--often grouped together in Suites--that appeal directly to the emotions: Idylle, Contemplation, Rêverie. |
