Summary Journal kept by Midshipman Humphrey Magrath from November 1799 to 1 September 1802 while serving on board the JOHN ADAMS (Frigate), ENTERPRISE (Schooner), GUADALOUPIER (Lugger), WADE HAMPTON (Ship), and CORA (Ship). Along with weather and sailing entries there are anecdotes about shipboard life, for example the battle between JOHN ADAMS and LAFLAMBEAU (23 July 1800); the discharge of a black man on the GUADALOPIER, who was discovered to be an enslaved man and returned to his owner (26 September 1800); and punishments given including flogging.
