Summary Diary kept by naturalist Horace Mann of Concord, Mass. (son of educator and statesman Horace Mann), while on a trip to San Francisco, California, 1-24 February 1864. Entries include descriptions of the voyage in the Steamer CHAMPION from New York, New York to Aspinwall, Panama; train ride across the Isthmus from Colon (called Aspinwall) to Panama City, Panama; and voyage on the Steamer GOLDEN CITY from Panama City to San Francisco. Also includes descriptions of people met, sights seen on board and land, nature and wildlife, his health, and the weather.
