[Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society], Austwick Hall and armorial bookplate of Clapham family with a lion holding sword over a crest with six fleur de lis on a diagonal banner on front pastedown. The front flyleaf includes the autograph of Thos. R. Clapham, F.R.A.S., Austwick Hall, Yorkshire, dated 1856 and the inscription: "this copy was prsented to my father R. [Richard] Clapham by the author Thos. Nuttall, 1853 - [signed] T. R. Clapham, My father and Mr. Nutall were old friends." Two letters and a copy of Descriptions and Observations of Some Species of Rhododendron Collected in Assam and Bootan by Thomas J. Booth and Thomas Nuttall [published 1853?] are tipped-in following the first two flyleaves. Both letters are thank you notes from Thomas Nuttall and Thos. J. Booth to Richard Clapham thanking him for the gift of Gardener's dictionary. Nuthall's letter is dated Dec. 4, 1853 and Booth's is dated Dec. 12, 1853. A loose handwritten note written by Thomas R. Clapham describes his father's relationship with Nuttall and Booth and Nuttall's travels in America and abroad. Plates I-IV include clippings pasted on the opposite side of print. An inscription on the title page signed T.R.C. and the loose handwritten note describe the pasted items as clippings from the Settle Chronicle dated Jan. & Feb. 1861 and July 19 & 21, 1884 as detailing Nuttall's life. An additonal handwritten note by Thomas R. Clapham and piece of correspondence to Clapham from a Mr. Goodwin dated Sept. 25, 1878 describes the whereabouts of several of Thomas Nuttall's nephews.;
