| Summary | Annotation In the context of the LCN conference, everyone needs to look at the question what are LANs anyway? They are difficult to define, but, as the name suggests, the physical distance is a viable and objective measure. Therefore, network control, multimedia support functions, multicast support, real-time protocols, and network analysis and measurements have been developed and advanced for LANs and beyond. Today, and this defines as well an intermediate step of a longer development cycle, LCN addresses security aspects, mobility questions, medium access fairness issues, Quality-of-Service schemes, and ad-hoc networks. The main conference and workshop papers provide an interesting and diverse view of the state of the art in research activities in the computing and communications fields. LCN 2005 proceedings also includes three Workshops this year. |
