| Biographical note | Jerry Tolley attended East Carolina University and played on the varsity football team. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. As a professional coach, he led the football team at Elon College (now University) in Elon, North Carolina to two division titles. Beginning in 1989, he served as the Mayor of the town of Elon for eight years. |
