Abstract This text is a two-part resource that first provides educators with an understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and guidance on how to effectively apply them in classroom practice. Following this, Robert J. Marzano and his colleagues supply readers with over one hundred ready-to-use proficiency scales created from the NGSS to help teachers assess students' progress. K-12 teachers and administrators will: learn how standards-based science education has evolved; gain a clear understanding of what the NGSS are, how they are organized, and how they can be used in classroom instruction; design high-quality instruction using proficiency scales for the NGSS; and have access to over one hundred ready-to-use science proficiency scales.
