She received her M.B.A. degree from the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management in 1981. From 1981 to 2005, Fairley worked in senior marketing positions at McNeil Consumer Products Company, Nabisco, Reckitt & Colman, SEGA Channel, The Coca-Cola Company, Chupa Chups USA, and PowerPact, LLC. In 2005, she was hired as partner and senior vice president of strategy and planning for IMAGES USA, and promoted to chief marketing officer and partner in 2009. In 2012, Fairley established DOVE Marketing Inc., where she has served as president. She was named a Top 100 Marketer by Black Enterprise magazine, and received the Association of National Advertisers Multicultural Excellence Award for the African American radio advertising for the Obama for America campaign in 2013.;
