Davis began her career as a writer, producer and reporter for WBZ-TV in Boston and KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh. From 1981 until 1998, she served as an executive producer for NBC News and MSNBC, where she built a team of "cyberjournalists," and helped launch MSNBC.com. Davis developed, wrote and produced The Scholastic-NBC News Video, and worked as a writer and producer for the NBC News' Today morning news program. From 1998 to 2004, she served as senior vice president/creative of CBS and Dunbar Productions, affiliated with TV host Bryant Gumbel. Davis was vice president of the Jackie Robinson Foundation; director of communications at Riverside Church in New York; and a founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists.;
