520 a| Gospel singer Annie Yancy was born on October 29, 1930 in Memphis, Tennessee, into the deeply religious family of Leah Edmonds Brown and Elijah Rhodes. Yancy attended Manassas Elementary School in Memphis, Tennessee, and Froebel High School in Gary, Indiana. Yancy moved to Chicago at the age of fifteen where she completed her high school education and two years of college at Kennedy Community College. One of seven children, Yancy's love of gospel music began at the age of eight when she was a featured soloist in the junior choir. Yancy shared her vocal talents with Gospel legends, R.L. Knowles, Robert Anderson, the famed Willie Webb Singers and The Roberta Martin Singers. Yancy was married to the late Rev. Robert Yancy, Associate Pastor of Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois. The mother of eight, three sons of her sons became ministers. Yancy's contributions to gospel music have been recognized worldwide.;
