Abstract |
Lawyer Jeff L. Greenup was born on March 24, 1919, in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Greenup received his B.S. degree from Long Island University. In 1950, he was president of the New York Branch of the NAACP where he served for ten years. In 1954, Greenup received his J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School, and then formed the law firm of Mack, McFadden and Greenup. In the 1960s, his clients included NAACP, CORE, SNCC and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He also started the multicultural law firm of Greenup, Schimmel, Golar & Levister. In 1984, Greenup was a founding member of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association. He was selected to travel to Russia to study the Russian legal system and he was also sent to South Africa to ensure the legitimacy of the nation's first democratically-held election. Greenup passed away on March 1, 2013 at age 93. |
