Curry earned his B.A. degree in psychology from Western Maryland College and his J. D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1980. From 1972 until 1973, he worked as a teacher and director of the child daycare center of Prince George's County. From 1975 until 1980, Curry held several positions in county government. He was a community affairs assistant; administrative assistant; and senior assistant to the county's chief administrative officer. Curry also worked as a real estate and development lawyer for the Michael Companies. From 1984 until 1994, he worked in private practice. In 1994, Curry became the first African American county executive for Prince George's County, Maryland. He served two terms. Curry passed away on July 2, 2014 at age 63.;
