520 a| Printmaker Lou Stovall was born in Athens, Georgia on January 1, 1937. Stovall grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, attending the Technical High School in Springfield. Moving to the nation's capital in 1962, he received his B.F.A. degree at Howard University in 1965. He also studied at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island and at the George Walter Vincent Smith Museum. In 1968, Stovall founded Workshop, Inc. Begun as a small studio focused on community posters, under his leadership it evolved into a highly regarded printmaking facility. His outstanding prints and drawings are part of numerous public and private collections throughout the world including the White House. Through apprenticeships for young artists, Stovall shared his wisdom and experience with a new generation of artists, helping to give back to the community that nurtured his professional development.;
