Reynolds went on to earn his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School in 1986. After graduation, he worked as a law clerk for the Sixth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals. He moved to New York in 1987 to work at the law firm of Hughes, Hubbard & Reed. Reynolds was appointed the Assistant U.S. Attorney of New York in 1989, and served for five years until he joined Morgan, Lewis & Bockius as a partner. In 2007, Reynolds joined Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. as the group vice president of business law. He was promoted to managing officer, general counsel, and chief legal officer in 2015, the first African American to hold this position globally.;
