| Abstract | Fashion designer Tracy Reese was born on February 12, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from New York City's Parsons School of Design in 1984, Reese was hired by French designer Martine Sitbon and eventually became head of womenswear for Perry Ellis. In 1996, Reese launched her ready-to-wear label, Tracy Reese, which later expanded to include more affordable lines of clothing, accessories and home furnishings. Reese's home furnishings line, Plenty, was established in 2000, and she started Frock! In 2006, and Tracy Reese Black Label in 2009. Reese designed First Lady Michelle Obama's dress for the Democratic National Convention in 2012. In 2016, Reese was one of the first designers to offer expanded sizing and to use a diverse range of models. She was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1990, and became its sole African American committee member in 2007. |
