Abstract Professor and nonprofit executive Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey was born on September 25, 1954 in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from State University of New York-Stony Brook in 1975 and earned her M.D. degree in 1979 from Harvard Medical School. In 1984, Lavizzo-Mourey was selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar and received her M.B.A. degree in health policy from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. She then joined the faculty as an assistant professor. From 1992 to 1994, she directed health policy for the Bush and Clinton presidential administrations. Lavizzo-Mourey was hired as senior vice president of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 2001 becoming president and CEO of the foundation in 2002. There, she launched a campaign against childhood obesity. Lavizzo-Mourey received numerous awards and was named Forbes magazine's twenty-second most powerful woman in the world and Modern Health's 100 Most Influential People in Health Care.
