She began her career in South Bend where she was the first African American female reporter and talk show host. She went on to work for fifteen years as a managing editor and reporter/anchor at WXIA-TV where she retired in 1999. In 2001, Miles was hired as the chief media relations officer for the MARTA, the transit agency in Atlanta. Miles also served as a talk show host for the Faith in the City Forum. From 2005 to 2007, she served as a state senator for Georgia's District 43. In 2008, she became a contributing columnist to The Champion newspaper in Decatur, Georgia. She was also a 2014 candidate for the U.S. Senate. Miles received three Emmy Awards and was invited twice to the White House. Her memoir, Teeny: Newslady In Training, was published in 2007.;
