520 a| Civil rights activist and social service worker Dorie Ladner was born on June 28, 1942 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Ladner earned her B.A. degree in social work from Tougaloo University in 1973 and received her M.S.W. degree from Howard University's School of Social Work. Throughout the 1960s, Ladner was active in many SNCC and CORE organized protests, including the campaign to free civil rights activist Clyde Kennard and the boycott of white merchants in Natchez, Mississippi. She participated in every civil rights march between 1963 and 1968. In 1964, Ladner became a key organizer in the Freedom Summer Project sponsored by the Council of Federated Organizations. She served as a community organizer for the Anti-Poverty Program in St. Louis, Missouri and advocated for civil rights in housing and employment. Ladner served as a clinical social worker in both the Washington, D.C. General Emergency Room and Psychiatry Department for thirty years.;
