Abstract |
Poet and academic administrator Eugene Ethelbert Miller was born in the South Bronx, New York City on November 20, 1950. In 1972, he graduated from Howard University with a degree in Afro-American Studies and was the first person in his family to graduate from college. In 1974, he became director of the African American Resource Center at Howard University, where he was able to both develop his own talents and to nurture emerging African American artists. He published ten books of poetry and essays and edited four award-winning anthologies. Miller was a board member of the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), the Network of Educators on the Americas and The Writer's Center. He was also an advisory editor for the African American Review. In 2004, he was awarded a Fulbright grant to visit Israel. He was a board member of the Associated Writing Programs. |
