520 a| Television news anchor Russ Mitchell was born on March 25, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri. While a senior in high school, Mitchell worked at St. Louis' ABC-TV affiliate. In 1982, he earned his B.A. degree in journalism from the University of Missouri, and began his broadcasting career in Kansas City. Mitchell served as a reporter in Dallas, Texas and St. Louis before becoming a weekend anchor and daily reporter for CBS's KMOV-TV in 1987 in St. Louis. In 1992, he worked as an anchor for the news program Up to the Minute and joined CBS' Eye to Eye program as news correspondent. Mitchell became a Washington correspondent in 1995 and was co-anchor of CBS's Saturday Early Show in 1997. In 1999, Mitchell joined CBS Evening News, and in 2002, he became a correspondent for the CBS Sunday Morning program. In 2007, Mitchell was hired as news anchor for CBS' Early Show.;
