Jenkins, along with two friends, Sampson Davis and Rameck Hunt, were studious yet fun-loving individuals who were accepted into a Seton Hall University program for minorities interested in medicine. Providing moral and academic support for one another, as Jenkins went to dental school and the others to medical school, they graduated in 1999. Jenkins joined the faculty of the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, his alma mater. The friends, known as the Three Doctors, wrote a book about their experiences, The Pact: Three Young Men Make A Promise and Fulfill A Dream, and toured the country speaking to inner-city youth. The Three Doctors also established a nonprofit foundation to provide scholarships and promote education. In 2000, they were awarded an Essence Award for their community service.;
