Abstract Jewelry artist Curtis "Kojo" Morrow was born on March 27, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age seventeen. Morrow volunteered to serve in the Korean War, and was wounded twice while there. After returning to the United States, Morrow became disillusioned by the social state of affairs in the country, leaving for Africa in 1965. He spent the next eleven years traveling the African Continent, immersing himself in the culture and learning the art of traditional jewelry craftsmanship. While there, he was adopted by an Ashanti tribe and given the name of "Achampong". After returning to the United States, Morrow continued to craft jewelry and write. He wrote two books: The Return of the African-American, about his travels in Africa, and What's a Commie Ever Done to Black People?, about his war experiences. He worked on a children's book based on African mythology.
