520 a| Foundation executive William Lowry was born on February 16, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. Lowry attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio where he received his B.A. degree. He earned his M.S. degree in industrial relations from Loyola University in Chicago. Lowry began his business career in Chicago as a member of the training program for the Inland Steel Company in 1963. During his early years at Inland, he co-founded the Youth Motivation Program which brought Chicago professionals into the city's public schools to address students about various employment fields. In 1967, he became the host of The Opportunity Line (later renamed Objective: Jobs), a weekly employment program that aired locally for twenty-four years. Lowry became the personnel and recruitment director for Inland. He retired from the company in 1993. He also served as president of Chicago-based MacArthur Foundation. He received and Emmy Award and a Peabody Award for his work on Opportunity Line.;
