Abstract Business and management consultant James H. Lowry was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 28, 1939. After graduating from Grinnell College in Iowa, Lowry served in the Peace Corps before earning a M.S. degree in public international affairs at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1968, Lowry was McKinsey Consulting's first African American recruit. After completing a certification program at Harvard University and producing a landmark report on the status of minorities in the twenty-first century, he founded James H. Lowry & Associates in 1975. Lowry developed innovative diversity strategies for prominent corporate clients including PepsiCo and Ford. Joining Chicago's Boston Consulting Group as a president in 2000, he made significant contributions to its North American Black Diversity Initiative. Lowry served as an adjunct professor at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management. As an educator and consultant, he successfully advanced policies of diversity that benefited businesses and individuals alike.
