Abstract Publisher Augustus Colson was born on May 25, 1936, in Chaires, Florida. He earned his B.S. degree from Florida A&M university in 1966. He is the oldest of seven siblings and grew up in a religious family of four ministers but Colson was always interested in art and journalism. Before attending Florida A & M, he studied at Alabama State College with art professor Howard L. Oubre. He moved to Los Angeles, hoping to break into media. When that effort was unsuccessful, he returned to Florida. He opened his own publishing and advertising production company in Tallahassee. His publication, Church Times, showcased ministries, ministers and local churches and their congregations. Church Times was cited for its commitment to the promotion of Tallahassee's religious community. The magazine also provided a vehicle for the professional and personal growth and expansion of other graphic artists, illustrators, journalists, poets and photographers in the Georgia/Florida area.
