| Abstract | Choreographer and dancer Dianne McIntyre was born on July 18, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from John Adams High School in 1964. She earned her B.F.A. degree in dance from Ohio State University. Following her move to New York in 1970, McIntyre founded her own company, Sounds in Motion, in 1972. McIntyre and her company performed in concert with Butch Morris, Max Roach, among others. McIntyre received many awards including the 2007 Guggenheim Fellowship and an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from State University of New York (SUNY) in 2009. McIntyte was known for her studio's collaborative work with noted jazz musicians and her theatre choreography. Her credits include Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Crown's and Scott Joplin's Opera, and Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. Her film and television credits include Beloved (Harpo/Disney) and Miss Evers' Boys (HBO) for which she received an Emmy nomination. |
